Class Structure

Gymnasts will be asked to perform certain skills during the session and these skills will be assessed by the coach. If the skills are performed to a high standard then they will be marked off on that skill on their Individual Skills Sheet. Once a gymnast has completed all of the skills in the grade then the coach can pass the gymnast and progress onto the next grade.

When a gymnast passes a grade they will receive a coloured band (£2) which will represent what grade they have completed. They will also receive a slip from the coach where they can take to the office where a member of staff will exchange the slip for a band.

Please not that not all gymnasts will pass at the same time as each gymnast progresses at different speeds. After a gymnast has passed level 6 they will be offered a trial into a development class either Sports Acro or Tumble however this will depend on the current squad size in development.

Grade 1 – Orange

Grade 2 – Pink

Grade 3 – Blue

Grade 4 – Green

Grade Skill Breakdown

Grade 1 – Orange

  1. Walk across low beam
  2. One foot stand (Hold for 3 secs)
  3. Dish & arch hold (3 secs)
  4. Jump from blue tressle to land (no steps)
  5. Forward roll on wedge
  6. Front support & back support (Hold 3 secs)
  7. Shapes – Straight/tuck/star/L position/straddle
  8. Jump 180 Degrees

Grade 2 – Pink

  1. Arabesque (hold for 3 secs)
  2. Chase Steps (forwards & backwards)
  3. Jump from green tressle to land (no steps)
  4. Hurdle step & hold
  5. Backward roll down wedge
  6. Pike level on red beams (feet on ground – held 3 secs)
  7. Straddle lever on red beam (feet on beam – held for 3secs)
  8.  Kick to handstand


Grade 3 – Blue

  1. Cartwheel on springboard
  2. Forward roll to straddle sit
  3. Tucked headstand
  4. Front support bounces on trampet (5 bounces)
  5. Bridge
  6. Handstand hold against wall (10 secs)
  7. Jump 360 Degrees.
  8. 10 rebound jumps with straight legs

Grade 4 – Green

  1. Cartwheel on grey line
  2. Forward roll
  3. Backward roll
  4. Headstand
  5. Handstand forward roll
  6. Front support press hands to legs (3 in a row)
  7. Bridge kickover 
  8. Splits (left or right)

Grade 5 – Grey

  1. Cartwheel quarter turn
  2. Forward roll to straddle stand
  3. Round off jump top dish on red block to mat 
  4. Handstand hold (2 secs)
  5. Back walkover 
  6. Front walkover
  7. Tuck Lever on blocks
  8. Handstand hop
  9. Splits (left & right)

Grade 6 – Gold

  1. Hurdle step round off 
  2. Cartwheel connected
  3. Backflip
  4. Pike Lever on blocks (hold 5secs)
  5. Straddle lever on blocks (hold 5secs)
  6. Handspring on incline red block
  7. Elephant lift against red block
  8. Stretch jump backwards roll down incline red block
  9. All splits
